PESHAWAR: At least 12 persons have been killed and 23 others injured in result of three hand grenade blasts in Shama Cinema in Peshawar on Tuesday. The condition of 10 injured persons is critical. Nearly 100 persons were present when the blasts were occurred. CCPO Peshawar Ijaz Ahmed while talking to media said three China made hand grenades were hurled in the cinema. The security forces have cordoned of the area after the bomb blasts. The Leady reading Hospital administration has confirmed the death toll. The show of Pashto film Yarana was being played when the bomb blasts were carried out.
The killed persons include Latifur Rehman, Khaista Gul, Imran, Sher Muhammad, Astana Gul, Bacha Syed, Zar Gul, Awwal Khan, Ghazi Marjan and Munir. The killed belong to Peshawar, Abbotabad, Tank, Bajaur Agency and Afghanistan. The ages of killed and injured persons include between the 20 to 35 years.
Subsequently, 12 people were killed whereas 23 others were injured, an official at Lady Reading Hospital, Syed Jameel Shah, said where the wounded persons were shifted by rescue sources for medical treatment.
However, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Ejaz Ahmed said eight people were killed and 22 others were injured.
City Police Chief Mohammad Ijaz Ahmed said three grenades were used and up to 80 people were in the cinema at the time. He said that the owners of the cinema were informed in writing about the security threats, adding that the CCTV cameras were also installed in the cinema by the owners of cinema.
Chief Minister KPK Parvez Khattack has announced compensation money of Rs .05 million for families of killed and Rs.02 million for injured persons.
An emergency was imposed in LRH and additional staff was urgently summoned.
Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the site of attack whereas army personnel sealed the area from Shami Road.
Police and rescue officials rushed to the site following the incident and surrounded the area.
According to rescue sources, all the injured have been evacuated and shifted to hospital while the law enforcement agencies and Bomb Disposal Squad have launched search operation.
Shama Cinema is situated in the busy Bacha Khan Chowk area of Peshawar.
Meanwhile President Syed Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister KPK Parvez Khan Khattak, Governor KPK Engineer Shoukatullah Kahn, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, former president Asif Ali Zardari, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed khurshid Shah, Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Shairf, Amir Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) Maulana Fazalur Rehman, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan, ANP Chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Jamatud Dawa Amir Professor Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, JI Secretary General Liaquat Baloch and other leaders have condemned the blasts in Peshawar cinema and offered sympathies with the families of the killed persons. President and prime minister have ordered the local administration to provide best medical facilities to injured persons.
Meanwhile Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar has summoned report of the blasts in Peshawar cinema from the IG KPK Nasir Durrani.
Meanwhile Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Imran Khan has expressed grief and dismay of the loss of precious lives and property in atrocious series of bomb blasts occurred in a cinema today at Peshawar. Calling it the most condemnable act of terror, he said that perpetrators of these inhuman attacks look for disruption of immature yet the most significant process of negotiations for bringing in peace to the nation.
He said that since the commencement of dialogues which after decade-long miseries and sufferings was the much awaited task, those who want hurling nation into another operation or wish extension of destruction and bloodshed have quite enthusiastically been operating to disrupt whole process of negotiations.
He stressed upon immediate truce and called upon the federal government and TTP to abhor the vicious terror apparatus carrying over attacks on innocent civilians and armed forces in order to spoil the whole scheme of peace through negotiations.
Looking forward to complete medication and cure for the victims of today’s blasts, Chairman PTI expressed solidarity with the bereaved families. He stressed upon the provincial government and sought immediate arrest of those responsible for such a callous act of terror.
