At least 27 more terrorists were killed in fresh air strikes by Pakistan armed forces in Shawal area of the restive North Waziristan tribal agency, the ISPR said in a statement on Monday. Toll number of killed terrorists has reached at 177. Meanwhile ISPR said Monday that six soldiers have been killed and three injured due to an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion between the Afghan border and Ghulam Khan Tehsil in North Wazirsstan Agency
They added that a security forces convoy was targeted on Bane Dar road in Ghulam kgan Tehsil on the Pak-Afghan border. Forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
It said that early Monday morning six terrorists’ hideouts in Shawal, North Waziristan Agency were destroyed by jet aircrafts, adding in these precise strikes 27 terrorists were killed.
Latest air strikes came after Sunday morning air assault in Degan- Boya in North Wazirastan in which 140 terrorists, most of them Uzbeks, were killed. “Many ETIM terrorists and their affiliates have also been killed in the strikes. It was a massive blow to the terrorists and one of their main communication centre has been dismantled,” the statement said.
ISPR said that operation in North Waziristan Agency, which code named Zarb-e-Azb, is progressing as per plan.
“No operation in civil populated areas has been started so far,” it said, adding North Wazirastan Agency has been isolated by deploying troops along its border with neighboring agencies and FATA regions to block any move of terrorists in and out of the Agency.
“Troops have cordoned off all terrorists bases, including the town of Mirali and Miranshah,” the statement said adding seven fleeing terrorists were killed on the outskirts of Mirali last night. In a separate sniper action by Special Service Group 3 terrorists were killed, while laying IEDs close to Miranshah
Security has been beefed up all along Pak-Afghan border to check terrorists fleeing from area. Afghan National Army and Afghan Border Police have also been requested to seal the border on their side to facilitate elimination of terrorists fleeing across the border. They have also been requested to initiate immediate measures to eliminate TTP terrorists and their sanctuaries in Kunar, Nuristan and other areas of Afghanistan.
Three soldiers were injured last night in exchange of fire with terrorists around Mirali, it said.
An orderly and dignified evacuation of civil population out of Agency is being ensured. Necessary Logistics and administrative arrangements for IDPs have been completed by Political Administration and Disaster Managmet Agency. Registration points and IDP camps have been established at Bannu.
Meanwhile, ISPR said security has been beefed up in all major cities and towns and at sensitive installations across the country by civil administration.
Army troops have been alerted and forward placed to assist law enforcement agencies. “They will remain at designated places and whenever asked by civil administration will be employed in case of emergency,” it added.
Meanwhile security has been put on high alert in Dera Ismail Khan following the military operation in North Waziristan. Police pickets have been increased on all the roads coming from North Waziristan to DI Khan. All police stations have been directed to increase patrolling in the city.
DPO Sadiq Hussain Balcoh has put the security in the district at high alert to avoid any king of reaction of North Waziristan operation.
