According to Metrological Department‚ the epicenter of the earthquake lies about 88 km in east of Jammu.
The earthquake was felt in different cities including Islamabad‚ Rawalpindi‚ Lahore‚ Peshawar‚ Swat‚ Haripur, Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sara-e-Alamgir, Sarghoda, Peshawar, Lahore and adjoining areas at 11:57 am on Wednesday. Earthquake tremors were felt from 10 to 12 seconds in Pakistan.
The quake was only 10 kms (six miles) deep and struck at 11:57 PST about 140 km (85 miles) northeast of Sialkot in Pakistan, said the USGS. Powerful, shallow quakes are capable of causing extensive damage.
People rushed out of their houses onto streets and started reciting Quranic verses out of fear; however, no report of human or material losses was received from any part of the country.
It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan bore the brunt of a powerful quake centered in Iran last month, killing at least 35 people in Pakistan and destroying hundreds of houses.
