KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) London-based leader, who had earlier decided to quit his party as its supreme leader, late on Thursday night changed his mind, plunging his twitchy workers in elation.
“My dear workers, be happy as I am not going to leave you. I will see you through until the end come what may,” Hussain said while tele-addressing a large number of his workers assembled at party headquarter Nine Zero here.
He said that he had never taught his followers to go after anyone for vengeance, nor would he ever do it down the line.
“I have always preached tolerance, but there’s a limit to everything. Enough is enough” the MQM leader said while issuing a warning that, henceforth, the MQM would lock down the urban centers the very next day if any of its workers was found murdered extrajudicially at any given time.
Earlier, claiming that ‘establishment’, a euphemism for Pakistan’s powerful military, was not in the favour of a Muttahida Qaumi Movement with he as its chief, Altaf Hussain Thursday said that he should better distance himself from his party to stop the ongoing extrajudicial violence against his workers.
“Establishment, which wants a minus Altaf Hussain MQM, has been pitting Mohajirs (migrants) against other ethnic groups and communities,” the MQM’s London-based leader exploded .
Implying that the MQM workers were being persecuted only because he was leading the party, Hussain said that if things did not improve in a matter of a day he would certainly quit the party while tele-addressing his workers in Hyderabad tomorrow.
“Why are my followers being hunted down by the plainclothesmen? Why are they not being produced before the courts?” Hussain said adding, “The federal interior minister had ordered the formation of three-member committee to keep an eye on the operations against the violent criminals in Karachi, but to no avail.”
The MQM leader said he had always practiced and preached patriotism.
“Being a patriot I refused to sell myself out when Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistan’s spymaster, tried to corrupt me after I have founded All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organization (APMSO). I told them that I was not up for sale as unlike others I was made of ‘honour’”, the MQM leader said.
