In a statement issued from London, the MQM chief expressed profound sorrow over the assassination of Unit in charge Sohail Ahmed and seconded the shutter-down decision of Coordination Committee.
Complaining that MQM is being politically victimized and its workers are being picked up and murdered, Altaf Hussain appealed the people at large to join hands in protest against the extrajudicial killings of party workers.
“Such incidents of atrocities can never unnerve the MQM. President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, federal interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif should take notice of these sanguinary incidents.”
While addressing an emergency press briefing earlier yesterday, Qamar Mansoor, in-charge Coordination Committee Pakistan reiterated the stance, “MQM is being subjected to political victimization.”
Mansoor also announced that MQM had decided to observe a Sindh-wide ‘day of mourning’ on Thursday to peacefully protest against the extrajudicial killing of the MQM’s Unit-64 Society Sector worker Sohail Ahmed.
“We appeal to the people, transporters and traders to close their activities and businesses tomorrow,” the MQM leader said.
Giving details on how Ahmed was killed, Mansoor said that on December 15, 2014 a Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) local leader, Saeed Chawla, who was flanked by goons and plainclothesmen of police, held an open-house meeting in Bahadurabad area of the metropolis.
“Sohail Ahmed, who was also present on the occasion, raised various questions regarding Sindh government performance for which he was forced to be quiet and PPP’s threatened him dire consequences,” the party spokesperson Qamar Mansoor said.
According to the MQM, on the same night Ahmed was arbitrarily arrested by the police and on January 28, 2015 he was found dead in Maowach Goth.
