KARACHI, (SANA): A candidate of Awami National Party Sadiq Zaman Khattak, who was contestingelection for NA-254 Karachi, was killed along with his six years old son in the result of firing of unknown persons outside Rehmania Masjid in Korangi’s Bilal Colony. Four other people were also injured in the incident. Meanwhile three persons including one police official and one lawyer were killed in different incidents of violence in Karachi.
A candidate of Awami National Party Sadiq Zaman Khatak, who was contesting election for National Assembly constituency NA-254, was targeted by unidentified gunmen outside Rehmania Masjid in Korangi’s Bilal Colony, police said.
Khatak’s five-year-old son was also killed in the attack. Officials said four other people were also injured when the armed men opened indiscriminate fire. Police termed the murder as an incident of ‘target-killing’.
Khatak was moved to Jinnah medical hospital in injured condition where was pronounced dead on arrival.
The assassination came eight days ahead of the May 11 general elections in which maintaining law and order situation and providing security to candidates is seen as a challenge for the caretaker government in the wake of Taliban’s threat of attacks to PPP, ANP and MQM, exempting PML-N, PTI, JI and JUI-F. The Election Commission has postponed the election on NA-254 after the murder of Sadiq Zaman Khatak.
Another firing incident took place in Paposh Nagar area where a political worker was shot dead, triggering shopkeepers to shutdown markets and all kind of business activities out of fear. Meanwhile one police official was killed in the result of the firing of the unknown persons in Awami Colony.
Meanwhile a High Court lawyer was killed and his father was injured on Friday.
According to details, High Court Advocate Shakil Jan and his father Gul Ahmed Jan, also a lawyer, were travelling in their private car when they fired upon at ICI Bridge in western part of Karachi. Police are investigating the incident. The mishap occurred when miscreants opened fire on the car in which Advocate Shakil Ahmad along with his father Ali Ahmad Jan Advocate was on way to some important job.
As a result, Advocate died on the spot while his father Ali Ahmad Jan Advocate sustained severe injuries and shifted to nearby hospital but unluckily could not survive.
Karachi Bar Association has verified their tragic demise and announced to go on strike across the country against terrorism which has claimed several lives.
