ANP ends sit-in outside Sindh CM House

anpKARACHI: After securing a strong commitment of justice from the Sindh government, Awami National Party (ANP) late Sunday night called off a protest sit-in against the murder of a senior party worker.

Unknown assailants gunned down President ANP District East, Dr Ziauddin, on his way home from a nearby mosque in Orangi Town. Having been shot multiple times, he died on the spot.

Earlier, hordes of ANP workers led by provincial leader Bashir Jan staged a demonstration outside Chief Minister House. They were chanting anti-government slogans demanding an end to targeted-killing rampant in Karachi, sourced said.

“Angry protestors placed his body outside the CM House vowing to stay put until the justice was served”, sources told Samaa.

The government officials, who initially faced a lot of resistance from the demonstrators, finally succeeded in convincing the ANP leaders to wrap up the protest so that the deceased could be buried.

Waqar Mehdi and Rashid Rabbani represented the government in the talks with the ANP’s local leadership.

In a statement issued here, the ANP said it would announce its future line action in two days after holding a meeting with CM Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

Speaking to media, Jan said that the provincial government had failed in protecting the political workers particularly in Karachi.

It must be mentioned that the stationhouse officer (SHO) and deputy superintendent of police (DSP) of the respective police station were suspended following the murder of Ziauddin.
