KARACHI: Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) claimed that a cook arrested from Nine Zero—the party’s headquarters—has been produced as a target killer; similarly, the ordinary firearms recovered were dubbed as ‘heavy weapons.
Addressing a press conference late Friday, the Muttahida’s Coordination Committee termed rangers overnight raid at the party’s central office on March 11 as violation of human rights.
There Were No ‘Heavy Weapons’ At Nine Zero
In the backdrop of huge threat level to the party leaders and Nine Zero, the firearms were got and Sindh and central governments were approached for their licenses, MQM leader Haider Abbasi Rizvi asserted adding the kind of weaponry recovered from the Nine Zero speaks volumes about the party’s financial condition too.
Rizvi remarked it was wrongly said that ‘heavy firearms’ were recovered; instead, they were commonplace, adding munition in even larger quantity can be found at the residence of any wadera (feudal lord).
Despite threats from Taliban and other terrorist outfits and concomitant realization of the fact by the government and secret agencies, Nine Zero was given security of only 30 personnel, he explained.
No-Go Area Perception
He added but after barriers were put in place to make the area secure, it is being said that Nine Zero is a no-go area, adding, “Nine Zero has never been a no-go area.”
Rubbishing the impression that a no-go area was set up around Nine Zero, Rizvi mentioned different spacious mosques and imambargah located in the near vicinity of Nine Zero. Establishing his point, he observed, “Thousands of people daily show up at Madni Masjid near Nine Zero. A large number of people gathers at the mosque on Thursdays for prayers.”
The MQM leader pointed out that it was said the raid was intended to capture a few persons; but, 120 people were rounded up during March 11 action.
Why Altaf Sister House Was Ransacked?
Rizvi also voiced fury over rangers raid at the residence of the MQM chief Altaf Hussain’s elder sister, saying, “She is a 70-year elderly lady. She is neither a political person nor does have any bearing on the party. She is widely esteemed by all as she brought up Altaf Hussain after the demise of their mother.”
Is Every MQM worker A Terrorist?
The MQM workers were subjected to severe inhuman torture, he said, adding rangers crossed all limits. Rizvi bawled out, “It seems the difference between political workers and terrorists has worn out. The campaign of our character assassination is in overdrive on daily basis.”
Rizvi also raised questions over the way the party’s workers were conducted to and from the court.
Waqas Shah Was An Asset Of Pakistan
Commenting on the murder of party worker Waqas Shah, he said a section of media is trying to cast doubts over his murder, asserting his party has substantial evidence regarding this.
Rizvi reminisced, “He was a poet and an accomplished orator. I used to say to him that he is Faisal Sabzwari in the making.”
The Muttahida leader yet again demanded a judicial probe into Shah’s assassination.
