QUETTA, (SANA): PML-N leader Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali and PML-Q’s Mir Abdul Quddus Bazinjo on Tuesday took oath as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of Balochistan Assembly at a specially convened session of the provincial assembly in Quetta.
Mir Jan Jamali and Mir Abdul Quddus elected unopposed Speaker and Deputy Speaker as other candidates withdrew their nominations.
The outgoing Speaker Syed Matiullah Agha administered the oath to Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali as new Speaker. Later‚ Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali administered oath to Mir Abdul Quddus.
Earlier, three hopefuls including Sardar Saleh Bhootani, Mir Asim Kurd Gailo and Dur Muhammad Nasar had withdrawn their nomination papers.
Chief Minister-designate Dr. Malik Baloch congratulated the new speaker and requested the chair to form standing committees as early as possible. “This assembly would deliver”, he said, adding that all efforts would be made to address the grievances of masses.
PML-N Balochistan President Sardar Sanaullah Zehri congratulated Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali on becoming the speaker of the provincial, adding that he was hopeful that the new speaker would run the house in impartial manner. He also thanked the voters of his constituency for electing him MPA, adding that he is hopeful that the assembly would continue following the Balcoh traditions.
Maulana Wasey, the parliamentary leader of JUI F, said his party would play the role of opposition in assembly.
Most of the members expressed their determination to struggle for restoration of peace in Balochistan, plagued by sectarianism, insurgency and growing religious radicalization.
