Reportedly, no one was hurt in the exchange of fire, which sent the almost ‘all-night-long-open’ eateries and other shops shutting down in Khayaban-e-Saadi society here.
According to sources, a verbal spat over a restaurant table worsened into a shootout between two groups of heavily armed men, most probably bodyguards of some influential big guns.
“Both sides apparently shot quick bursts at each other –but not with an intention to harm– and fled away in their vehicles, said to double-cab pickup trucks, before law enforcers could even reach there”, an diner told Samaa.
Fortunately none of the bullets hit anyone at the scene of the shooting as most of the shots fired were somewhat aerial.
“Hell broke loose as soon as they pulled the triggers. The booming gunshots drowned out almost everything else. It seemed everyone was running for their lives. I found cover behind a car to save myself and kept lying low until it was all over”, another eyewitness told Samaa.
After the shooters had long gone, Rangers and cops secured the area.
Upon hearing the gunshots, people present at the site started running here and there for safety. However, no casualties were reported as a result of the firing.
Later, police reached the spot to bring the situation under control.
Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Amir Sirajul Haq were meeting in Bilawal House at the time of the incident.
Bilawal House, was built after the marriage of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto with Asif Ali Zardari and was named after the birth of their first son, “Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.” It is located on Khayaban-e-Saadi, Karachi.
