Reports have it that misfortune struck after a passenger bus collided with a truck near Othal, a suburb of Hub, a town in Balochistan that borders on Karachi.
According to sources, the bus was on its way from Quetta to coastal metropolis of Karachi.
Fearing a sharp rise in casualties, the rescue sources told Samaa that, so far, they had rushed many dead and injured including women and children to the hospitals in Karachi.
So terrible was the collision that it left the bus almost totaled and rescuers had to cut through the mangled wreckage to pull the victims out.
Police suspect the driver’s negligence was likely the cause of the accident.
“We believe the bus driver dozed off before the accident happened as it’s a long drive from Quetta. He was maybe too tired to stay up”, a police official told Samaa.
On the other hand, sources quoted eyewitnesses as saying the bus was speeding far over the legal limit by the time this unfortunate mishap came to pass, adding, the visibility was also compromised due to to early winter fog.
