KARACHI: Business and academic activities are closed in Karachi and other cities of Sindh on Wednesday after Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) announced a peaceful shutter-down strike against the overnight raid of party’s central office by the rangers.
Shops, markets, transport, schools and colleges were closed in Malir, North Karachi, Usmanabad, Tariq Road, Ranchhoreline, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and other areas of the city after the MQM’s Coordination Committee appealed to people to keep their business activities at a standstill and transport off roads today in protest over the rangers raid at Nine Zero.
Examinations in different schools, colleges and universities have been postponed due to the MQM’s protest. The new date of the papers will be announced later.
The party’s main decision-making body said several party leaders including Amir Khan, Abdul Haseeb Dr. Saleem Danish and Arshad Hussain have been arrested, adding many party workers including Ayub Sheikh and Sindh MPA Rehan Zafar have been whisked away.
The Muttahida urged upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take notice of the overnight raid and arrests.
