LAHORE, (SANA): Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered the Punjab government to submit its report regardingmeasures to stop measles on June 13 with the direction that Punjab Chief Minister and Health Minister would be responsible if any child falls victim to measles.
Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan on Tuesday conducted hearing of the case when DG Health Dr Tanvir informed the court that special measures were being taken in order to overcome measles. Vaccination has brought down the number of casualties, said DG Health.
At this, the court, while expressing its anger, said that the report submitted by the DG has nothing to do with the reality; rather it is traditional report. The court further said that such tactics have become outdated; now they have no worth.
While passing his remarks, Justice Khalid Mehmood Khan said that chief minister and minister have taken oaths; now they must focus their full attention on their action.
The justice made it clear that if somebody is found responsible for negligence, he would be sent to jail. The government must do every possible struggle in order to overcome fatal disease which is targeting innocent children.
The court, while rejecting the DG’s report, has sought an explanation from Punjab government on June 13. Outbreak of measles has gone out of control in Punjab. The death toll has reached to 152 after the recent death of Salman who is only one year old. The case was adjourned by the court till June 13.
The total number of children infected by measles in the province has reached to 16,748 out of which 5,035 cases have been registered in Lahore.
