According to the schedule‚ the process of filing nomination papers would be held from the 24th to the 29th of March.
Scrutiny of nomination papers would be held from 30th March to 5th April. Last date for filing of appeals against decisions of the Returning Officers regarding acceptance or rejection of the nomination papers would be 9th of April.
Last date for withdrawal of candidature will be the 17th and revised list of candidates would be published on 18th April.
This schedule would also apply to the seats reserved for Women and non-Muslims in the National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies.
Elections to both National and Provincial Assemblies would be held the same day‚ i.e. 11th May.
The offices of the Election commission as well as those of District Returning Officers and Returning Officers would remain open on Saturday (23rd March)‚ Sunday (24th March)‚ on 30th and 31st of March.
Earlier‚ talking to newsmen in Islamabad‚ Additional Secretary of Election Commission Afzal Khan said that a special scrutiny room has been set up at the Election Commission.
Afzal Khan said that defaulters of a minor amount to any department including parliamentary lodges will be ineligible to contest elections.
He said that the Election Commission has been connected with NADRA‚ NAB‚ FBR and the State Bank. These agencies will be bound to scrutinize nomination papers within twelve hours.
