Election Commission of Pakistan has directed the election tribunals to settle the election complaints as soon as possible. The commission has summoned reasons of delay in settling the election complaints from tribunals in one week time. The commission has written letters to tribunals in this regard.
Meanwhile the meeting of the election commission was held under the chairmanship of Acting Chief Election Commissioner Justice Nasirul Mulk to review the demands of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday at the election commission head office. The meeting was attended by all four members of the commission. The meeting reviewed the demand of Imran Khan regarding the resignation of all four members of the commission.
Earlier during the informal meeting the members of the commission reviewed the allegations of Imran Khan.
Members of the Election Commission have rejected Imran Khan’s call for their resignations and they have decided to adopt a strict stance.
The members said they were appointed on merit and would continue their jobs till the completion of their constitutional tenure. According to the senior member of the commission the formation of the election commission is constitutional matter, adding that the members could not resign on the demand of any person. According to him the appointment of all members of the commission is according to constitution.
Member of the commission justice (retd) Riaz Kayani has said that the legal course should be adopted for removal of the members of the commission.
