Establishment of law and order, economic betterment & overcoming energy crisis top priority of govt: Nawaz

nwaz shrif ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has emphasized to expand and diversify the national exports for rapid economic growth. He said that the establishment of peace is necessary for industrial progress and economic restoration in country, adding that the government was making all out efforts for this purpose. Nawaz Shairf said establishment of law and order, economic betterment and overcoming the energy crisis is the top priority of the government.

He was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a three-day Pakistan Auto Show 2014 in Lahore on Thursday.

He said that corruption and wrong economic policies of the previous governments have taken country on the verge of disaster. He said that no heed was paid to cope with the energy needs of the country, adding that the current government not only will overcome the energy crisis but is also working on the projects to produce additional electricity, adding that the new projects would produce 21,000 megawatt electricity. He said currently the exports are being done with 216 countries, adding that the ha has given target of doubling the exports of the country during the next five years.

The Prime Minister said over seventy-six percent exports are currently restricted to only twenty countries.

Nawaz Sharif said the government is preparing a plan for maximum utilization of GSP Plus status given to Pakistan by the European Union.
He said GSP Plus status will provide market access to ninety percent of country’s products to the EU markets‚ enhancing our trade with European Union by one point five billion dollars.

The Prime Minister said the government will encourage the private sector by providing a level playing field to all stake-holders to generate economic activities in the country.

He said a number of new power projects costing over thirty-two billion dollars are being carried out which would produce twenty-one thousand megawatts electricity during the next few years. He said currently Pakistan is facing the shortfall of 5000 megawatt. He said that the government has started work on many electricity projects, adding that country will secure 21,000 megawatt electricity with the completion of these projects. He said Shahbaz Sharif has started work on two power projects, adding that 1300 megawatt electricity would be secured from these projects. He said 1000 megawatt electricity would be generated from the power project in Bahawalpur.

He said on completion these projects would help over come the energy crisis during the tenure of PML-N government.

The Prime Minister urged the auto manufacturers to visit such events at international level like the Geneva Auto Show to improve their standard.

Governor Punjab Muhammad Sarwar and some Federal Ministers also attended the ceremony.
