Five ‘criminals’ among nine dead in Karachi

ambuKARACHI: Violence continued in Karachi where four more people died in firing incident as law-enforcers claimed to have eliminated five alleged criminals overnight.

According to officials, police carried out an operation in Orangi Town locality late on Monday on a tip off about presence of Tehreek-e-Taliban militants in the area.

Police said they exchanged fire with alleged militants and left two of them injured. Police claimed that the wounded died on way to hospital.

Separately, a shootout took place between police and alleged gangsters in Lyari’s Chamcha Chowk area. The encounter left three of the gangsters dead. Police claimed that the alleged criminals were associated Baba Ladla group and were wanted in various cases.

Earlier, sporadic incidents of firing in Lea Market, Landhi and Juriya Bazaar areas left four people, including two policemen, dead.
