Flight operations at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan airport resumed on Wednesday after being temporarily suspended following last night’s terrorist attack on a landing plane, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said.
CAA authorities added that the routes leading to the airport were cleared for traffic.
According to initial investigation report, a submachine gun was used in attack on Pakistan International Airline (PIA) plane near the Peshawar airport.
During investigation, It has been revealed that banned Tehreek-e-Taliban’s Darra Adam Khel group was involved in the attack.
On the other hand Peshawar police registered cases against unidentified men for the attack on a passenger plane at Peshawar airport. The deceased was identified as Mrs Maknon (passenger) while the injured were identified as Ijaz (flight steward) and Majid (passenger).
Flight operation resumed at the airport after 11 hours. However, three international flights were diverted to Islamabad from Peshawar.
More than 500 suspects have been arrested so far in the ongoing search operation by security forces in the Budh Bher area of the city as well as nearby areas.
The funeral prayers of the deceased woman was offered on Wednesday in Hayatabad Phase 6 and her body was taken to Nowshera for burial.
According to the initial report on the incident, the PIA plane was hit 10 times, however, the pilot managed to land the aircraft safely three minutes after the attack.
A compensation package was also announced for the victims of the attack. Family of the deceased woman will receive Rs0.5 million while the injured will receive Rs0.2 million each. Security has been increased at the airport following the attack
The shooting took place at 11:00pm on Tuesday night when the passenger plane was 350 metre away from the runway of Bacha Khan International Airport. The report revealed that a flare gun was used first to determine plane’s exact position.
The PIA flight PK756, carrying 178 passengers from Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh to Peshawar, was fired upon for two minutes before landing at the Bacha Khan International airport late night. Officials said the PIA flight was hit by at least 12 bullets.
A woman passenger was killed and two flight stewards identified as Wajid and Ijaz were injured. Wajid, who sustained bullet injuries in his leg, said the plane was at an altitude of 250 to 300 feet height when gunshot hit the plane at the back side. Luckily Captain Tariq Chaudhry safely landed the plane at the airport and averted a catastrophe.
It is worth mentioning here that last night unidentified gunmen attacked the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Boeing PK-756 as it came in to land at Peshawar’s Bacha Khan airport, killing a woman and injuring two flight stewards on board.
The PIA Boeing PK-756 had 196 passengers on board, arriving from Riyadh when it was fired upon. The firing injured three people including two flight stewards and a woman, who later succumbed to her wounds.
The plane was hit by six bullets, police said, killing the woman and narrowly missing the captain. At least one bullet struck the plane’s engine, they added.
The woman’s daughter was sitting next to her when she was shot in the head, PIA official Mohammad Kifayatullah Khan told Reuters.
When I went inside the plane, I saw the woman lying on the seat and her nine-year-old daughter was crying, ‘My mother is dead, my mother is dead’, he said.
