Two people died and one was injured on Thursday when unidentified gunmen opened fire outside a religious seminary in Gulistan-e-Johar area.
Police said that Qari Ali Hasan, administrator of Madrasa Matiul Uloom Rahmania, and his son Maulana Manzoor were standing outside their Madrasa when gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire, killing them on the spot. Ali Gul, a cook of the Madrasa, was also injured in the incident.
Madrasa is located in Sachal Goth near Meteorological Department office in Gulistan-e-Johar.
Tension gripped the area following the incident as angry people staged a demonstration against the killings.
Meanwhile religious scholar Allama Taqi Hadi Naqvi was gunned down in North Nazimabad area in an apparent incident of target killing.
Two gunmen riding on motorcycle opened fire when Allama Naqvi was about to board a rickshaw.
He was attacked on a road between KDA chowrangi and Matric Board office in North Nazimabad. The dead body was shifted from Abbasi Shaheed hospital to Ancholi Imambargha.
His nephew told a private TV channel that Allama Naqvi had received threats and it was communicated to the police but no security arrangements were taken for his safety.
Renowned within the academic circles, Hadi was born in Moradabad area in Indian state of Sirsi and moved to Pakistan along with his family after the creation of Pakistan.
His father, Hakim Maulana Syed Mohammad Hadi, was also religious scholar.
Recently Allama Taqi Hadi Naqv was associated with the Jafria Disaster Cell (JDC)’s educational board.
Moreover, police men belonging to Sachal and Mobina Town police stations locked horns with each other over the jurisdiction of the incident.
Another person was gunned down near Pakwan Centre in New Karachi area of the city. Policemen described the incident as a targeted killing.
Moreover, Rangers personnel conducted targeted raids in Malir, Jauhar, Square, Orangi Town and Jumma Goth area of the city arresting 10 suspects, according to a spokesperson of the para-military force.
The spokesperson further said that the arrested suspects were members of outlawed organisations and involved in the city’s gang-war.
Furthermore, East zone police arrested 26 accused including two proclaimed offenders during a targeted operation. Huge cache of arms was also seized from the arrested.
