According to reports, gunship helicopters started shelling on the militants’ hideouts in Tora Wari and Dar Samand areas of Tal. Several hideouts of the militants were also destroyed in the shelling.
According to security forces‚ the strikes were carried out on confirmed reports about the terrorists planning a terrorist activity in a compound near Thall. Security officials confirmed the strikes.
The officials said the military launched the attack after confirming reports about the presence of militants in Tal.
Sources added that gun ships continued to hover after the shelling whereas panic spread in the area. Four gunship helicopters took part in the operation, sources added.
The air strikes took place a day after Taliban spokesman Sahidullah Shahid urged the government to declare ceasefire first.
The Taliban spokesman, speaking at a news conference at an undisclosed location in North Waziristan, referred to the military strikes and said they are ready for talks despite attacks.
“The government has started the war and should also take the lead on a ceasefire,” he said.
It may be mentioned that Pakistani jets bombed militants’ hideouts in a northwestern tribal district early Thursday, killing at least 40 militants, including local and foreign terrorists.
