IHC rejects old, summons new joint report in extortion case

caseISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has rejected the joint report of Inspector General of Islamabad Police Sikandar Khan, Deputy Commissioner and Chairman CDA terming it as unsatisfactory and directed them to submit a detailed report on extortion in the vegetable market of Islamabad.

The court directed the IGP and DC to inform it about those personalities receiving the money collected through extortion. It also sought the names of those officers and politicians, who receive fresh vegetables and fruits from the market daily.

Justice Shaukat Siddiqui, Judge of IHC heard the case regarding extortion in Federal capital on Wednesday.

The court also summoned answers from CDA chairman about whether a CDA administration member gets share of extortion the procedure of transfers in CDA. The court directed him to submit replies till October 04.

During the course of hearing, 11 traders filed application to become party in the case and court accepting their petitions issued notices to the respondents.

Earlier, the joint report was submitted in the court, confirming that that the extortion was prevalent in vegetable market of Islamabad involving market union, police and some CDA employees , who receive money from traders.

Report revealed that a special force has been formed for collection of extortion from more than 600 people. It was mentioned in report that now extortion has been weeded out.

After reading the joint report, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui said that the report had pointed out various aspects.

The court directed IG Islamabad to submit the report on money recovered through extortion and the share holders of that money, while court directed police station Sabzi Mandi to submit separate report indicating the names of CDA officials and other personalities receiving fresh fruit and vegetables.

Meanwhile, two extortion accused, Safdar Siddique and Tariq Siddique, nominated in FIR also filed applications to become party. The court accepted their applications for hearing.

The court ordered the investigations from member admn, adding that three CDA officers appointed in market have made a gang for recovery of extortion and this gang shifts fresh vegetables and fruits in store of CDA. These fresh vegetables and fruit go to political and high officials.

The court ordered stern action against officers involved in extortion and summoned fresh joint report from IG, DC and Chairman CDA till next date of hearing on October 04.
