ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said that the government should hold serious dialogues with Taliban, adding that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan should announce unconditional ceasefire.
Talking to media persons outside the parliament house he said PTI wants peace in country through dialogue process. He said the action should be taken against the groups which are involved in terrorist activities. He said that the surgical strikes should be carried out against the people who have harmed the army. Imran said prime minister should himself lead the dialogue process, adding that currently the dialogue process is suspended. He said there are over 50 groups of Taliban and all major groups are ready to hold dialogues.
He said that the Taliban should announce an ‘unconditional ceasefire’ to save the dialogue process.
Imran Khan said an operation should be carried out against Taliban militants involved in terrorism while negotiations should be held with those ready for talks.
Referring to the claim of responsibility by the Mohmand chapter of the Taliban for the killing of 23 FC personnel, he said an operation could be conducted against them.
He further said the majority of Taliban militants, comprising of about 50 groups, and other tribes were in favour of dialogue, adding that the militants should be given another chance to hold peace talks.
Ups and downs were a part of the negotiation process and had he been in Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s shoes, he would have led the peace talks himself, the PTI chief added.
Talking about the possibility of an operation, Khan said 80 per cent of the people displaced during the operation in South Waziristan were yet to be re-settled and the concerns of the population of North Waziristan should be considered before an operation was carried out in the region.
The PTI chief said that there is 0.6 million population in Waziristan, adding that if women and children were killed in military strikes in lawless region then they would take stand against the state.
However, he advised the government to conduct surgical strikes against those elements which are causing damage to military and the people of Pakistan.
“Operation should be conducted against elements who are involved in acts of violence,” he said, but added that talks remained the only solution to end the bloodshed.
He urged Taliban to announce a ceasefire for the peace talks to proceed. “When innocent people will be killed in the operation, there will be reaction,” he said.
To a question, he said that there should be surgical strikes against those targeting armed forces.
“We should allow the women and children to leave North Waziristan before the operation,” he suggested.
He said the US has been conduction operation in Afghanistan for last ten years but failed to achieve any result. Imran Khan said PTI has always been in favour of restoring peace through dialogue.
