WANA, (SANA): Chief of the Army Staff General, Ashfaq Pevez Kayani on Thursday appealed to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from war-ravaged South Waziristan Agency to return to their areas, assuring them of military support. He said that the fate of the SWA people is going to change soon, adding that the development works would be started soon in the area. General Kayani said he was ready to give in writing that the reasons, which attract the people towards terrorism would be ended in next one to three years.
Speaking after the inauguration of 50-kilomtere road from Wana, main town of South Waziristan Agency to Angoradda, the army chief said that the army would maintain its presence in the area as long as people were satisfied with the law and order situation.
He noted that nobody would indulge in terrorism if the tribal region prospered. He said that roads, electricity, education, health and other uplift schemes were completed in the area and the projects would fulfill the purpose only after the people of the area returned to their houses.
United Arab Emirates Ambassador was also present during the inauguration of the project called Third Corridor, which the Pakistan Army chief announced to name after Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayad Al Nahayan.
He also thanked the people of South Waziristan for their support to the armed forces in bringing peace in the region.
General Kayani said after flushing out terrorists from South Waziristan Agency to restore peace, Pakistan Army was carrying out rehabilitation and reconstruction operations in the area for the people’s welfare.
Army Chief said the army is engaged in the area to bring peace and provide protection to the people so that they could live peaceful life.
He said due to the efforts of the army operation against terrorists was completed in a month. He appealed to the people of the area who have left to return to their homes and resume their normal life. He said army will stay in the area till complete peace is restored.
General Kayani said the government is working on a plan to ensure development of the area by providing civic amenities to the people and construction of roads to link the area with the rest of the country. He said that it was joint responsibility of tribal people and armed forces to safeguard the roads of the area.
