Lahore tragedy toll rises to 12, as young Rizwan dies
Another boy who was critically injured in the Model Town Tragedy during the gunfire rampage by Punjab police on Tuesday, has succumbed to his gunshot wound this morning, pushing the overall death toll to 1.
The hospital administration declined to hand the body to the bereaved family, asserting that they have been strictly directed to deliver the body to none but police for certain procedure.
The latest death is of Rizwan, a resident of Chakwal, who received gunshot injury at his back. According to hospital sources, the deceased underwent a major operation but could not sustain, as the bullet had reached his lung.
Having been denied the custody of their son’s body by the hospital, members of the bereaved family mounted protest at the hospital. Talking to media, the deceased Rizwan’s father said the hospital management turned down all their repeated appeals to give them their young son’s body, adding however that the hospital officials said they have been warned by police against delivering any dead body.
Rizwan’s father said the police wanted to get a post mortem report of any of Model Town Tragedy victims as and when he succumbs to injuries at hospitals, adding however that he does not want the post mortem of his son.
“I do not want the post mortem of my son, as I will be traveling a three to four-hour distance to my ancestral place in Chakwal,” the grieving father added.
