MULTAN: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi attributed the responsibility regarding the stampede in the party’s Multan rally with concomitant deaths, to the city administration.
Following the tragic incident, Qureshi showed up at Nishtar Hospital to visit the injured. Later, talking to media persons, he called for absolute investigation into the incident, asserting that the district administration is to blame for the incident.
The PTI MNA Arif Alvi pointed out that administration was requested to open the gates; but, the gates were not opened.
The PTI leaders furthermore argued that the city’s administration turned off the lights of the venue that in part became the reason for people to panic.
The PTI leaders also mentioned the fact that the stage stairs also went missing.
It should be mentioned here that the PTI organized a very powerful showing in Multan’s Qila Qasim Bagh Stadium on Friday. People thronged the stadium beyond its capacity. Towards the close of the public gathering, people’s headlong rush out of the venue ended up in a stampede that claimed lives of at least seven people and dozens others were wounded.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan, along with populist cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri, has been staging a sit-in in Islamabad since August 15. Simultaneously, protest rallies are also being held in other cities.
Khan and Qadri claim the 2013 elections were massively rigged that guided Nawaz Sharif to form the government for the third time.
