Nawaz meets Imran to discuss dialogue process with Taliban; PM appreciates Imran role for restoration of peace in country

rolISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif along with Chaudhry Nisar Ali Kahn, Irfan Siddiqui and Dr Asif Kirmani reached at the residence of PTI Chief Imran Khan in Banni Gala as a good will gesture on Wednesday. Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Sardar Jehangir Tareen, Chief Minister KPK Parvez Khan Khattack and Shirin Mazari were also present during the meeting. Dialogue process with Taliban, formation of new government committee for dialogues and other important issues related to national security were also discussed during the meeting. Sources say the two sides agreed on the need to form a new negotiation team.

The meeting between the PTI leadership and Prime minister’s delegation continued for 70 minutes. Prime minister reached at the resident of Imran Khan without the protocol. Chaudhry Nisar was driving the car of prime minister on the way to Prime Minister House after the meeting.

Prime minister said that the government wants to achieve the destination of restoring peace in country without bloodshed. Prime minister appreciated the role of Imran Khan for restoration of peace and success of dialogue process. It was decided that Rstam Shah Mohmand would remain part of the government committee for holding dialogues with the Taliban. The prime minister has accepted the name of Rustam Mohmand for the committee.

Both leaders agreed to make efforts for restoring peace in country through dialogue process.  The Prime Minister said their objective is to realize the goal of peace without bloodshed.

Later talking to newsmen, Imran Khan said it is for the first time that a Government made serious efforts for peace through dialogue and achieved good results. Imran Khan said he had a good meeting with the Prime Minister and added that efforts of Mian Nawaz Sharif for peace were appreciable.

The PTI leader said operation should be avoided and the goal of peace should be realized through dialogue. He said PTI would extend all possible support to make the dialogue process a success. He said anti-dialogue forces are active and meeting of the pro-dialogue forces is a good omen.

He said ceasefire announcement by Taliban is a major success and we should benefit from this development.

Imran Khan termed his meeting with the prime minister as pleasant. It was decided that the action against those groups who are carrying out terrorist activities against the state would be responded in same way and dialogues with the groups who are ready to hold dialogues with the state would be held. Imran also hailed the efforts of prime minister for restoration of peace in country through dialogue process. Imran said first time any government has achieved results through holding serious dialogues. He said that the dialogues should be continued for establishment of peace in country.

The situation of Tharparkar was also discussed during meeting. The PTI leaders held the bag governance of the PPP in Sindh.

While talking to a private TV channel PTI Spokesperson Shirin Mazari said that the dialogues are the only way forward for brining peace in country, adding that prime minister and Irman Khan decided to continue dialogue process. She said that it was decided in the meeting that the groups who are not ready to hold dialogues should be isolated. She said it was decided that the security of the local people of North Waziristan should be ensured if the operation is carried out as last resort.

She said that the government is serious in holding of dialogues. She said that the prime minister given assurance that if any change in policy was brought it would come through consultation with the political parties.
