Nawaz says corruption will not be tolerated; says govt committed to address the issue of power load shedding

ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has categorically stated that corruption would not be tolerated, adding that the government is committed to address the issue of power load shedding, which is a grave problem.

In his inaugural address to the first meeting of the federal cabinet in Islamabad Monday, he said the government will take all possible measures to improve the electricity supply situation and reduce load shedding in the minimum possible time.

Nawaz Sharif said the new government will devise a consensus strategy in consultation with all the stakeholders to overcome terrorism.

He said corruption will not be tolerated at any cost and each one will have to show his performance for the betterment of the people.

The Prime Minister urged the members of the cabinet to work for decreasing state expenditures and ensure public service. He said each public servant should be bound for ensuring punctuality in office.

Nawaz Sharif said the new government will have to give solid performance as there is no room for any inefficiency.

Referring to the manifesto of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Nawaz Sharif said this envisages reduction of thirty percent in expenditures. He said we should reduce our expenditures more than the figure mentioned in the manifesto.

The Prime Minister directed cabinet members to prepare plan of action and set targets within fifteen days and take sold steps to achieve those targets.

He said that the country is facing grave challenges including load shedding, price hike, poverty, economic destruction, terrorism, extremism and unemployment which need joint and dedicated efforts to address them.

Nawaz Sharif said he is of firm view that only a strong government can tackle the challenges being faced by the country.

He said effecive measures will have to be taken to transform public sector enterprises into profit earning entities; otherwise these should be handed over to private sector.

The prime minister said he worked for national interest and not for personal interest, adding those who perform well would be his friends. He said they were to perform at any cost as the country did not need failure persons.

He said that no one would be allowed to do corruption and strict action would be taken those officers and people who found involved in corruption.

The Prime Minister urged the members of the cabinet to work for decreasing state expenditures and ensure public service. He said each public servant should be bound for ensuring punctuality in office.

Nawaz Sharif said the new government will have to give solid performance as there is no room for any inefficiency. Nawaz Sharif said that billions of rupees are being leagued in the national run corporations, adding that this practice should have to be ended immediately. Nawaz said that these corporations would be privatized or would be given in public private sector partnership.

Nawaz said that previous government did nothing for the solution of the electricity problem, adding that the dictator also did nothing for the solution of this problem during his nine years rule. Nawaz Sharif said that if PML-N would not deliver then it has no right to govern the country.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed the cabinet members about the present condition of the economy of the country.

During the meeting the Water and Power Minister khawaja Muhammad Asif briefed the participants about the energy crisis. Prime minister advised Khawaja Asif to take immediate steps for provision of immediate relief to the masses from energy crisis. He said that the immediate relief should be provided to masses and there should be no unannounced load shedding.
