Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has urged the political opponents to support the development agenda of the government and shun negative politics to steer the country out of multidimensional challenges. He said 30, 40 or 50 thousand people could not change the mandate of millions of people, who voted PML-N in last elections. He said those claiming revolution could not harm Pakistan and government. He said no one would be allowed to stop the process of development in the country. He said economy of the country is strengthening and forex reserves have reached at $ 14 billion.
He said someone is trying to bring change through revolution and someone is trying to bring change through public gatherings could not harm the country. He said which kind of revolution opponents of government are trying to bring in country. He said at the end these people would be ashamed. He said change could not come overnight it requires hard work and struggle.
He was addressing a ceremony of handing over of privileges and honor cards to the top taxpayers in Islamabad on Tuesday. Prime minister said that in the result of the government policies the load shedding crisis would be overcome during the tenure of the government.
Nawaz Sharif said it is time to engage in constructive politics as the country can not afford the politics of 70s and 80s now. He pointed out the country is faced with multiple challenges including energy crisis, terrorism, poverty and illiteracy and these can only be overcome through solidarity and unity.
The Prime Minister said those raising hollow slogans of revolution and change in the country is bound to fail in their designs. The investors should not give ears to their holliganism as they cannot cause any harm to the country. Thirty to forty thousand people can not bring any revolution and steal the mandate of those who secured millions of votes in the polls. The people of Pakistan have given the PML (N) mandate in the elections and it will complete this mandate. He categorically stated that nobody will be allowed to impede the process of progress and development in the country.
Nawaz Sharif said that revolution can only be brought through effective policies and implementation of development projects. He, however, said this process will take time to bring positive change in the lives of common man.
Nawaz Sharif said the economy has been put on the right which has also been endorsed by several international organizations including Moody, International Monetary Fund and the World.
On the energy crisis, he said there is no quick solution to this problem but several projects in various sectors have been launched to overcome the shortages. He reassured that the government will overcome the energy crisis before the end of its present term. Several projects have been started with the cooperation of Chinese government in this regard. Gaddani, Port Qasim, Thar, Sahiwal and Jamshoro are some of the major coal based projects which will help meet the demand and supply gap. On Gaddani project, he said it has been decided to establish jetty by the government itself to speed up the completion of this important project.
On Infrastructure projects, the prime minister said our government has also envisaged Lahore-Karachi motorway project besides improving the transport system in Karachi. The federal government will fund the Green Line transport system in the provincial capital.
Giving a brief overview of the economic gains, the Prime Minister said the ratio of tax collection increased by seventeen percent during the last fiscal year. Fiscal deficit has brought down to four percent while foreign exchange reserves have increased to fourteen billion dollars. These are expected to touch the mark of 15 billion dollars in the next couple of months. These measures have helped appreciate the value of rupee.
He said it was the interest of international community on Pakistan that the country’s euro bonds were overscribed to seven billion dollars but we only accepted two billions. If needed, the country can release more Euro bonds.
Nawaz Sharif said God Almighty has blessed this country with all resources and we can turn the tide by providing a conducive environment to the investors.
Later, the Prime Minister gave away privileges and honor cards and certificates to the top taxpayers. Under this scheme, top four hundred taxpayers will get privileges taxpayers cards. The holders of these cards will get special incentives such as use of VIP at airports, fast track immigration clearance and honoary passports and their baggage allowance will be enhanced from five hundred dollars to five thousand dollars. Certificates of excellence will be awarded to ten top tax payers in every category.
The taxpayers cards will be valid for one year and will cover the categories of companies, association of persons, salaried and non-salaried individuals.
Earlier while addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar said “Privilege and Honour Cards have been issued to 100 top taxpayers in each of the following categories: salaried individuals, non-salaried individuals, Association of Persons and companies.”
If every single Pakistani pays his or her tax, the economy would be strengthened. He mentioned that 1, 20,000 persons had been issued notices to non-filers.
