In a hearing at NEPRA, Central Power Purchase Agency told that devaluation of dollar caused reduction in prices of furnace oil by Rs 18,000 per metric ton. The agency also told that rupee has appreciated in the international market that led to reduction in cost of electricity production.
Chairman NEPRA said that they are providing direct relief to the consumers following the reduction in cost of production.
He said that electricity prices will further be reduced in the near future.
Chairman NEPRA said that the government is successfully producing electricity even at small scale projects, adding that two sugar mills will also start producing electricity in near future.
It is pertinent to mention here that NEPRA had increased the power tariff only last month by Rs. 2.24 per unit drawing heavy criticism from political circles.
Following the devaluation of dollar against rupee, Pakistan Muslim League -Nawaz (PML-N) government had vowed to provide relief to the public by reducing electricity prices.
