ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has said it will receive the nomination papers from March 25 to 30 after President Asif Ali Zardari signed a summary sent by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.
According to the proposed schedule of Election Commission, the final list of the intending candidates will be issued on April 19.
Presidential Spokesman Farhatullah Babar said that the general elections will be held on May 11, as President Zardari signed a summary in this regard.
According to the ECP spokesman, the commission requires 48 to 50 days after the nomination papers are received till the polling day. After the presidential announcement, there are 52 days left before the general elections are held.
The Election Commission will formally announce the elections schedule in the next two to three days.
According to the ECP Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan, the proposed election schedule has been readied which is expected to be announced on March 23.
The process of the candidates’ scrutiny will commence on March 31 and appeals can be filed from April 7 and the ECP will begin deciding on these appeals from April 11.
According to the election schedule, the candidates are allowed to withdraw their nominations by April 18, as the final list of the candidates will be issued on April 19.
The commission has specified seven days for the scrutiny of the candidates under the proposed election schedule and the candidates will have 21 days at their disposal for electioneering and canvassing after the final list is issued.
