ISLAMABAD, (SANA): The National University of Science and Technology (NUST) conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Philosophy on the Egyptian President Dr. Mohamed Morsy at a special convocation in Islamabad on Monday.
The degree was awarded to Egyptian President in recognition of his achievements and significant contribution towards promotion of peace and harmony in the world and strengthening bilateral relations with the Muslim countries specially Pakistan.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf as Chancellor of the University conferred the degree on the Egyptian President.
Speaking on the occasion Dr. Mohamed Morsy said Islam dictates on the Muslims to seek knowledge and get enlightened by the science. He said our Prophet (PBUH) has ordered us to seek knowledge even if it were in China.
He urged the new generation to get scientific knowledge despite challenges. He said Muslim scientists made many achievements in the field of science. He said European philosophers also appreciated their successes.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf speaking on the occasion lauded the struggle of Dr. Morsy for democracy.
He said Pakistan is looking forward to new vistas of cooperation with Egypt in various fields including agriculture, health and higher education.
The Prime Minister acknowledged Dr. Morsy’s contributions as a leading politician and a learned academic.
He expressed gratitude to President Morsy on behalf of President, the government and the people of Pakistan, for his maiden visit to Pakistan. He expressed the confidence that this visit will serve as a basis to further deepen, diversity and strengthen bilateral relations between Pakistan and Egypt.
He said both the countries stand by each other on war against terror and at times of crises.
He invited Egyptian enterprises for investment in the Pakistani market. He said we do have a rich textile industry, while Egypt has a diversified telecom sector. As regards the educational front, we have a good tradition of exchanging our talented students. He said Al-Azhar University has played a pivotal role in this regard. He congratulated Dr. Morsy on the award of honorary Ph.D degree.
