SRINAGAR, (SANA): A Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah , in Kot Bhalwal jail in the Indian occupied Kashmir , has been grievously injured after being attacked and beaten by another Hindu inmate, a former Indian Army soldier.
A police official in the Indian Occupied Kashmir said that the Pakistani prisoner in the local jail has been grievously injured after being beaten by another inmate, a former Indian Army soldier here on Friday.
The attack came a day after a convicted Indian spy Sarabjit Singh died after being bludgeoned with a brick by fellow inmates at a Pakistani prison a week ago.
The official, who cannot be named because he does not have permission to speak to reporters, said that the prisoner, Sanaullah, is in critical care in a hospital in Jammu city.
Sanaullah, who goes by one name, was imprisoned in 1999 and in 2009 sentenced to life in prison for being a Pakistani militant operating in Indian held Kashmir. He is 65 years old. He belongs to Sialkot.
Meanwhile, the Indian External Affairs Ministry has allowed access to the Pakistani High Commission and the Jail superintendent has been suspended.
Pakistan on Friday expressed deep concern over the attack on a Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah, who was serving life imprisonment in a jail in Indian Occupied Kashmir, resulting in grievous injuries.
In a statement, Pakistan Foreign Office said that upon receipt of this information, the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi has sought immediate consular access to visit Sanaullah, who is presently in hospital in Jammu and in a critical condition.
“This obvious retaliation to the death of Indian prisoner Sarabjit Singh is condemnable and we call upon the government of India to take all measures to ensure that Sanaullah receives the best medical treatment available, investigate the matter thoroughly and punish the perpetrators of this atrocity,” the Foreign Office said.
“We would also remind the government of India of its responsibility in ensuring the safety and security of all Pakistani prisoners lodged in Indian jails.” the Foreign Office said.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs has established contact with India on the issue of attack on a Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq at Kot Bhalwal jail in occupied Kashmir.
