PESHAWAR, (SANA): The newly-elected Chief Minister of Khayber Pakhtoonkhawa Pervez Khan Khattak has taken oath of his office. Governor KPK Engineer Shaukatullah administered the oath of newly elected CM. Meanwhile two senior ministers Sirajul Haq and Sikandar Sherpao have also taken oath of their offices. Earlier Parvez Khattack was elected CM KPK by securing 84 votes.
Parvez Khattack while addressing the assembly session called upon the central government to formulate a clear policy on drone strikes and the war on terror. He said PTI would continue its efforts to put an end to US drone strikes on Pakistani soil. “If PTI would have been ruling in the Center, the US could not have dared to carry out drone attacks,” claimed Khattak.
The chief minister said: “We are not afraid of the Americans and we don’t need their charity, but it’s the federal government’s prerogative to give a clear policy on drones.”
“If the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz gives a clear policy to the provinces on drones and the war on terror, we will support them,” he said. He said that if the PML-N government not formulates clear cut policy on drone strikes and terrorism then PTI would register its protest at every forum. He said that the PTI could not resolve the terrorism issue alone.
“Innocent Pakhtuns are being killed in the name of war on terror in KP, FATA and Afghanistan, and from the general public as well as the security forces, which is all the result of wrong policies of past governments,” he said.
Khattak further added that law and order was their top priority and but his government would have zero tolerance towards corruption.
The chief minister also called on the health department to bring reforms in the sector and put the hospitals in order, making doctors available on duty at all times. Pervez Khattak has said his government will devise a comprehensive strategy to bring peace in the province.
He said concrete measures will be adopted to root out corruption and eliminate Thana culture from the province.
Khattak said law and order is a big challenge ahead and the new government will take solid steps in consultations with all political forces to overcome the situation.
The new leader of the House said that althought the province is facing a number of grave challenges but the new government will make every possible effort to bring a positive change in the life of people. He said that special emphasis will be laid on improving social services besides creating new job opportunities for the youth. He said new government will honor its promises made to the people who will see a visible change.
Parvez Khattack he asks the high officials of government to stop corruption, adding that the PTI government award exemplary punishments to the corrupt officials.
He said that there would not everything for sale in the government of PTI, adding his government would put everything on right direction in the province. He said that everything is wrong in KPK at present.
Parvez Khattak, a joint candidate of PTI and its allied parties, secured 84 votes against JUI-F’s Maulana Lutfur Rehman who bagged 37 votes.
Wajihuzzaman of the PML-N had withdrawn his nomination papers minutes before beginning of the election process.
