The petition, filed by barrister Zafarullah, stated that the chief election commissioner and members were constitutionally appointed with the consultation of opposition and government, adding that few negative elements were trying to postpone general elections.
The petitioner requested the court to take action against such forces, adding that the demand of dissolution of ECP is unconstitutional.
The petition says that ECP was formed in June 2011 and after one and half year challenging the ECP is unjustified, so court may reject the petition filed by Tahir-ul-Qadri.
It is important to mention that Tahirul Qadri had also filed a petition in Supreme Court to reconstitute ECP, adding that its members should be sacked since their appointment was unconstitutional. Three members bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and comprising Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Azmat Saeed would hear the case tomorrow (Monday).
