PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has declared fuel adjustment charges on electricity bills as illegal and directed the authorities to reimburse the amount collected under fuel adjustment charges.
Two-member bench of the Peshawar High Court headed by Chief Justice PHC, Dost Mohammad Khan and comprising Justice Nisar Hussain conducted hearing of the fuel adjustment charges case here on Tuesday.
Chief Justice PHC said that according to Pesco and Pepco record from three to four systems were non-functional.
Dost Mohammad Khan inquired about the collection of the fuel adjustment charges from the consumers and said that fuel adjustment charges are illegal. Under which law fuel adjustment charges are imposed, he inquired.
The chief justice remarked that the Pesco is collecting funds from the consumers for repairing of the transformers.
He said that there is no such system to provide electricity to the civilized citizens, saying that if 70 percent people are involved in theft of electricity, the electricity supply is disconnected of the 100 percent people and 30 percent consumers suffer without any reason.
