PM to re-consult party to decide Musharraf’s fate
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will re-consult his party leaders today over whether or not former president retired Gen. Pervez Musharraf be allowed to travel to the UAE to see his ailing mother. Yesterday, a majority of the PML-N’s leaders opposed Musharraf’s exit from Pakistan. The meeting was held at the Prime Minister Office to discuss the issue. According to sources, most party members were of the view that the move might put negative implications. Musharraf, who was indicted by the Special Court for treason on Monday, has applied for his name to be removed from the ECL and the ball is now in federal government’s court. The PML-N leaders, according to sources, were of the view that legal formalities about Musharraf’s trial must be fulfilled. The prime minister later decided to expand the process of consultation, sources said. PM Nawaz Sharif will resume the consultation today with his party stalwarts for a final decision. Federal Defense Minister Khawaja Asif had said that Musharraf’s name would not be removed from the ECL.
