LAHORE, (SANA): Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) nominated former speaker of Punjab Assembly Rana Muhammad Iqbal again for the same slot on Sunday. Meanwhile Sardar Sher Ali Gorchani was nominated for the Punjab Assembly’s deputy speaker slot.
Nomination papers for the slots have been filed on Sunday, while the elections will be held today (Monday). The decision to nominate Rana Iqbal and Sher Ali Gorchani in the parliamentary party meeting presided over by Mian Shahbaz Sharif.
Speaking to reporters after his nominated as Punjab Assembly speaker, Rana Iqbal Khan said that said that all parties would work for the progress and prosperity of the country. Rana Iqbal said he would try his best to come up with the expectations of the party leadership. Rana Iqbal said he would try his best to run the house according to the constitution of the country and would deal all parties equally in the assembly.
The Punjab Assembly commenced its first session on Saturday during which newly elected members took oath.
The opening session of the 16th Punjab Assembly was presided over by incumbent Speaker Rana Iqbal Khan, who also administered the oath of office to the newly elected members.
The chief minister will be sworn in at the Governor House on June 6. Former law minister Rana Sanaullah Khan is likely to get key portfolios in Punjab.
Earlier, the PTI has named Rashif Hafeez for the post of Speaker and Waqas Hassan for Deputy Speaker. Separately, the PPP has nominated Qazi Ahmed Saeed as its parliamentary leader.
