Addressing an international seminar on ‘Peace and Conflict Resolution’ organized by National University of Science and Technology in Islamabad on Wednesday, the President renewed Pakistan’s commitment for establishment of peace and stability at the regional and the international levels.
He noted that peace and stability leads towards socio-economic well being of the people and promote a sense of security among societies.
He said that our commitment to international peace has been duly acknowledged by the international community and the world leaders. He said that peace and stability is of great significance for Pakistan in view of recent developments at the regional and the international level particularly in the wake of 9/11 incident.
The president said Pakistan has always been at the forefronts in complementing UN efforts for peace and stability. We have actively been engaged in various peace missions and have been contributing soldiers, policemen and civilians for peacekeeping in forty one countries over the last fifty three years.
He said that currently about eleven thousand Pakistani peacekeepers are engaged side-by-side with the international peacekeeping forces in various countries.
Mamnoon Hussain expressed the confidence that this moot will bring forth workable recommendations in resolving regional as well as international issues. He hoped the seminar will be of great relevance to our policy makers, intellectuals and students to develop comprehensive understanding of the issues and finding durable solutions to the existing issues and emerging situations.
On the occasion, addressing the seminar, UN Resident Coordinator Timo Pakkala appreciated Pakistan’s contributions to the UN peacekeeping missions.
