PTI workers allegedly attack Fazl in London

fazulLONDON: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters allegedly tried to attack Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman after clashing with his followers here on Monday.

Reportedly, the JUI-F leader, who is visiting Britain these days, escaped an ‘assault-attempt’ outside a restaurant located in Southall, a large suburban district of west London.

Sources told Samaa that dozens of slogan-shouting PTI workers rallied outside the eatery, while Fazl, along with local JUI-F leadership, was having a meal in there after attending a condolence meeting held in the memory of late Maulana Khalid Soomro at Abu Bakar Mosque.

Soomro was murdered on November 29 in Sukkur as a fresh wave of sectarian violence has hit Pakistan.

Allegedly, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s justice party workers beleaguered the cleric, who is always at odds with the PTI chief, as soon as he stepped out of the restaurant with his acolytes.

“A large number of people bearing PTI flags collided with the JUI-F workers, but police arrived in the nick of time averting a serious scuffle. Fazl escaped unscathed as his adherents, who stood like a wall around their leader, pulled him through,” sources quoted an eyewitness as saying.

The police after dispersing the cohorts of both the rival parties recorded Mulana Fazl’s statement, in which he condemned the PTI’s ‘handy hooliganism’ in the strongest of words.

According to media reports, PTI London has accused the JUI-F workers of assaulting an Insafian.

“We are giving a serious thought to lodging a complaint with the Metropolitan Police against the religious party for torturing PTI workers,” the report quoted a party spokesperson as stating.-
