ISLAMABAD, (SANA): Nomination papers for the presidential election will be received by the presiding officers today (Wednesday). The nomination forms would be filed till 12:00 pm today (Wednesday).
The scrutiny of the nomination farms would be held in the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim and in the presence of candidates or their representatives on Friday.
Political parties both government and the opposition are set to field their candidates for the top slot of the country.
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has short listed three candidates for the election which include Sartaj Aziz, Mamnoon Hussain and Saeeduz Zaman Siddiqui. However, the party leaders are engaged in consultation with other allied political parties to finalize a consensus candidate.
Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif after consultations will announce final name of the candidate of the party.
On the other hand, Pakistan Peoples Party has nominated Mian Raza Rabbani as its candidate for the office. Awami National Party has announced to support PPP candidate in the election.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaaf has nominated retired Justice Wajhiuddin for the office.
Keeping in view the position of electoral college for the election of the president, it is expected that the nominee of PML (N) will emerge as the winner.
It is also expected that the PML (N) will pick its candidate for the presidency from Sindh as the province has no representation at top level political hierarchy at present.
The Presiding Officer of Parliament House Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Justice Anwar Khan Kasi, Presiding Officer of in Lahore Justice Umar Ata Bandial, Presiding Officer of Karachi Justice Mushir Alam Khan, Presiding Officer of Peshawar Justice Dost Muhammad Khan and Presiding Officer of Quetta Justice Qazi Muhammad Faiz Essa will receive the nomination forms of presidential candidates today (Wednesday). The ROs would send these nomination forms to returning officer of presidential elections and chief election commissioner of the country.
The sessions of the parliament and provincial assembly will be held under the supervision of returning officers on 6th August. The sessions of the assemblies would be summoned by the speakers of respective assemblies. The presidential candidates should fulfill the Articles 62 and 63 of the constitution, the candidate should be a Muslim, should not be a bank defaulter, should not hold dual nationality and ‘sadiq and Amin’.
Meanwhile the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued voting instructions to the Parliamentarians ahead of the presidential election.
In a two-page directive, ECP instructed the Parliamentarian to correctly mark the name of the concerned candidate in the ballot paper. The election will be held through secret ballot.
The Parliamentarians have been asked to use a special pencil for the purpose and this will not be allowed to use for any other writing method.
Members of the Parliament would also have to show their national identity cards at the time of polling.
The parliament house and the 4 provincial assemblies have been declared as polling station for the presidential election. The presidential election will be held on 6th August.
