ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has summoned the categorical statement of Federation and Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) regarding the Margala hills project, stating that court should be informed whether this project is being started or not. Court would resume hearing today again.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the suo moto notice case on Tuesday.
During the course of hearing additional attorney General Shah Khawar informed the court that NHA and federation have submitted their reports on the directives of the apex court.
Chief Justice Chaudhry stated that Federation and NHA have not made it clear that whether any project is under consideration or not.
Meanwhile deputy director NHA Muhammad Imran informed the court that NHA has not received any kind of instructions regarding the project, adding that Chairman NHA is on visit of Khanjrab area of Balochistan and Deputy Chairman is present in Parliament for appearance before standing committee.
Deputy Director Irfan told that NHA keeps care of the environment while starting any project. Upon that Justice Gulzar a member of bench remarked “ can NHA gives any example of such project in which it keep kept the care of environment”.
On the occasion Chairman Margala Hills Society Roedad Khan said that government is not going to finish this project, adding that government has discussed the project in various meetings. The government is going to acquire land in Rawat area for new city so court may issue stay order against that project, Roedad Khan requested the court.
Chief Justice remarked that court can not bar on purchase of land.
Later the court adjourned the hearing till today (Wednesday).
