ISLAMABAD, (SANA): The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday suspended all postings, transfers and deputations made by the outgoing caretaker government over the past three-month tenure; meanwhile the court has summoned Transparency International Chief Adil Gilani personally on 6th June in appointment of federal ombudsman case.
A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard a petition in this regard and issued this orders, suspending a notification of postings, transfers and deputations made by the caretaker regime.
The bench also sought relevant record from Attorney General of Pakistan Irfan Qadir and all federal secretaries, other than the Secretary Establishment Division.
Officials said a final court decision in this regard is expected in Friday’s hearing. The Supreme Court has given till today (Wednesday) to the secretary establishment, secretary cabinet, secretary law, principal secretary to the prime minister and all other secretaries to submit details. Attorney General Irfan Qadire informed the court that the anti-dumping Appellate tribunal chief justice (retd) Faqir Muhammad Khokhar has tendered resignation from the post on 22nd May.
The court stated, that the caretaker government cannot give orders that are beyond policy matters. Khwaja Asif from the PML-N had challenged the caretaker government’s orders.
During the hearing the chief justice addressing Khawaja Asif said that the PML-N is going to form government and all the appointments should be on merit. Upon this Khawaja Asif said that beside the court the whole Pakistan will see that all the appointments made by the PML-N are on merit.
Chief justice said that rules were not followed in the deputation of 100 officers of Balochistan at federal level, adding that one advisor of the finance ministry was removed from his post without any reason. Chief justice said that the court would lay down the rules in this case. Chief said that one finance advisor was removed from his post without any reason.
The court issued directives to Secretary Establishment Division, Secretary Law and Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister directing them to submit record and details in the court. The case was adjourned till tomorrow (Thursday).
Meanwhile the Supreme Court has summoned Transparency International Chief Adil Gilani personally on 6th June in appointment of federal ombudsman case. Chief justice said that there are severe allegations regarding the appointment of the federal ombudsman, adding that if these allegations were proved wrong then Adil Gilani would have to faces severe consequences.
The secretary of the federal ombudsman informed the court that the appointment of the Slamn Farooqui was made prior to 1st March. Upon this the court observed that it would review weather the interim government followed its mandate or not. The court has summoned the view point of the federal government from the attorney general.
It is worth mentioning here that the chief justice had taken the suo moto notice on the letter of TI’s Adil Gilani against the appointment of Slaman Farooqui as the federal ombudsman.
