SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam among four others martyred in Karachi blast

aslmKARACHI: At least four police personnel including Senior Superintendent of Police CID Chaudhry Aslam Khan have been martyred and 11 other persons were injured in result of bomb blast on Lyari Expressway near Essa Nagri in Karachi. The injured and dead bodies were shifted in Jinnah hospital, where the condition of some of the inured persons is critical. All the leaders of the political parties including Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari,MQM Chief Altaf Hussian, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Opposition Leader Syed khurshid Shah, Governor Sindh Dr Eshratul Ebad Khan, Amir Jamaat-e-Islami Syed Munawar Hassan, Sunni Tehreek Chief Sarwat Ejaz Qadri, Information Minister Sindh Sharjeel Memon and others have strongly condemned the attack on Chaudhry Aslam.

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has strongly condemned the blast that occurred in Hassan Square Karachi which resulted in the death of Chaudhry Aslam, SP CID Karachi and other officials.
The Prime Minister has further said that such attacks will not deter the morale of law enforcing agencies in the fight against terrorism. He said that the sacrifice of Chaudhry Aslam would not go in vain.

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a twitter message said the Taliban have killed his police officer.
MQM chief Altaf Hussain called for the immediate arrest of terrorists behind the attack. He added that terrorist activity in a major city like Karachi was a great cause of concern.

PTI Chairman Imran Khan while condemning the attack on Chaudhry Aslam has demanded of the government to immediately arrest the attackers. Imran khan while paying rich tribute to the services of Chaudhry Aslam has termed the killing as great loss. Imran said that the nation appreciate the actions of Chaudhry Aslam for brining peace in Karachi.

Opposition Leader Syed khurshid Shah while talking to a private TV channel said the government would have to decide about the holding of talks with the militants or starting operation. He said that the opposition would beck the decision of the government. He said Chaudhry Aslam was brave officer, adding if he was martyred then 100 more officers would born. He said that the no operation without the support of federal government could succeed in Karachi. He said Taliban are getting strength in Karachi, adding that the government would have to take decision regarding terrorism issue soon.

According to Additional IG CID Iqbal Mehmood the vehicle of Chaudhry Aslam was targeted when it reached near the Essa Nagri on Layari Expressway. He said the double cabin vehicle of Chaudhry Aslam and two other vehicles of police were completely destroyed in the attack. Chaudhry Aslam, Farhan, Nauman Junejo and Kamran were martyred in the attack. Meanwhile Muhammad Fayaz, Rehmat Ali, Nusrat Bilal, Muhammad Irfan, Fahan Ahmed Khan and toehrs were inured in the attack.

This latest was fifth attack on Chaudhry Aslam. TTP Mohmand Agency chapter has accepted the responsibility of attack on Chaudhry Aslam. Five injured persons belong to special counter-terrorism unit of CID. The people personnel have received light wounds. DIG Umar Khatab has said that Chaudhry Aslam was martyred in a suicide blast, adding that the investigations are underway into the attacks.

According to initial reports, SSP CID Chaudhry Aslam’s vehicle was targeted in the blast. The vehicle was completely destroyed in the blast. According to the autopsy Chaudhry Aslam received serious wounds in head, on face and in chest, due to which he was died on the spot.

The rescue teams and police rushed to the site soon after the blast and shifted the injured and killed persons in hospitals. Meanwhile, the law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the area while an investigation is underway.

Chaudhry Aslam, was seen as one of Pakistan’s toughest police officers. He survived several attacks on his life, including a suicide attack on his residence in September 2011 in which almost eight people were killed

Starting his career as an ASI in 1984, Muhammad Aslam Khan, commonly known as Chaudhry Aslam, was serving as the Superintendent Police (SP) of the Central Investigation Department (CID). He had served as a station house officer (SHO) at a number of police stations in the metropolis.

He originally hailed from Manshera in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chaudhry was added in front of his name due to his role in the Karachi operation. In 2010, Khan was appointed as a head of the Investigation Wing of the CID. Earlier, he also headed the Lyari Task Force (LTF) to uproot gangsters from Lyari.
