ISLAMABAD: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed shah has said that Pakistan should learn a lesson from the terrible results of the use of army in Egypt and Syria. He said that there may be conspiracy in summoning army in Karachi.
Talking to media persons at his chamber in the parliament house here on Wednesday, Syed Khursheed shah said that Indian political parties would find an opportunity to defame the Pakistani institutions over calling army in Karachi.
He said that the prevailing situation of Karachi has been created by Army itself and former general (late) Ziaul Haq patronized the language group for ejecting Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).
He said that advantage should be taken from the report of the common investigation committee for ending the criminals groups in Karachi.
He said that there is no doubt on the intention of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz sharif for establishing peace in Karachi.
He said that the opposition would not let the Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) government to topple. He said that it has been the tradition of the PML-N that whether it is in power or in opposition, it does not take its coalition partners along with it , adding that the nomination of six members of the government by PML-N for appointment of chief election commissioner is example of the PML-N’ s tradition.
Khursheed Shah said that the hands involved in backing criminals can be exposed if the influential people do not exert pressure for release of the accused taken in custody.
He said that establishing peace in Karachi is not difficult; adding that report of JIT should be followed. He said that army should not be involved and the army should not be summoned to be deployed in streets in Karachi.
He said that the use of army against the citizens is never in the national interests. He said that terrorism was promoted in Karachi in the military regime.
He said that troubled situation in Karachi can be overcome through cooperation of the intelligence agencies and the coordinated efforts.
He said that the opposition does not consider the rumors as true, adding that a government officer without uniform is being appointed as inspector General Police Sindh. He said that these seem rumours. He made it clear that the opposition would not let the PML-N government to derail.
To a question, Khursheed Shah said that the set up of the National Security Council is against the autonomy of the parliament, adding that that was the reason due to which , the PPP government abolished this council and set up defence committee of the cabinet.
