Zardari to address joint sitting of the parliament today

ISLAMABAD, (SANA): President Asif Ali Zardari in a historic move would address the joint sitting of the parliament for the 6th time in the history of the country today (Monday). The text of the speech has been prepared in the presidency, which would be the reflection of reconciliatory policy. After the presidential address the first parliamentary year of the 14th National Assembly would be started.

President Zardari in his address would stress upon the need to promote relations between the federation and provinces; meanwhile president would also stress on mutual cooperation between the federal and provincial governments. President would show his confidence that the new government would honor the provincial autonomy.

According to the sources of presidency the president will inform the government about the expected challenges and would stress upon the need of taking all parties on board on all important issues. President would also ask the government to come up on the aspirations of the masses and would also stress on strengthening of institutions.

President will also express his views on important international issues, especially war on terror, Pakistan’s role in regional peace and matters of national security.

Strict security arrangements have been made on the directions of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan for the joint sitting of the parliament. CCTV cameras have been installed; meanwhile aerial surveillance would be conducted during the joint sitting. Rangers’ personnel would conduct patrolling on the Constitution Avenue on the occasion.

For the smooth holding of the joint sitting of the parliament the meeting of the parliamentary leaders in Senate and National Assembly would be held in the chamber of the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq today (Monday). It is expected that the members of all parliamentary parties would listen presidential address in peaceful manner. Due to the security reasons the parliamentarians are not allowed to bring visitors in the parliament.

President Zardari is the first president of country who has the privilege of addressing the joint sitting of the parliament 6th time. President Zardari addressed the previous assembly five times.

It is worth mentioning here that the presidency had also contacted the federal government of PML-N for its input in the presidential address. It is first time when President Zardari will address the joint sitting of the parliament during the PML-N government instead of PPP.
The invitations have been issued to important personalities, which include chief minister, governors, chief of the armed forces, president and prime minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir and ambassadors of important countries.

The joint sitting will be held at 4:30 pm in the Parliament House, according to the spokesman of the National Assembly Secretariat.

The Speaker National Assembly would invite President Zardari for addressing the joint sitting; meanwhile Senate Chairman Nayayr Hussain Bukhari would be present along with NA speaker at speaker dice.

The president has called the meeting in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 54 read with clauses (1) and (3) of Article 56 of the Constitution of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, President Zardari, who has departed for Dubai where he is expected to meet his son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, will be back in time for the all important joint session of the parliament.
